Holy Monastery of Agios Nektarios in Palaiogratsano

A Newer Monastery of Faith, Serenity, and Majestic Views in the Pierian Mountains
The Holy Monastery of Agios Nektarios in Palaiogratsano is the newest monastic foundation of the Holy Metropolis of Servia and Kozani. Established in 2006 by the late Archimandrite Avgoustinos Myrou—renowned for his deep spiritual and social contribution—it is located on a scenic hillside of the Pierian Mountains, near the village of Palaiogratsano. The monastery enjoys breathtaking views of the Kozani basin, the artificial lake of Polyphytos, and the surrounding mountain ranges. Surrounded by lush greenery and silence, the monastery offers an ideal environment for spiritual contemplation and inner peace.
Father Avgoustinos Myrou, the monastery’s first abbot, breathed life into this sacred space, establishing it as a place of prayer, night vigils, and confession. After his repose in 2020, the monastery continued its operation under a managing committee and a brotherhood of seven monks from Ukraine, led by Hieromonk Symeon. The monastery celebrates its main feast on November 9th, the feast day of Agios Nektarios, and on September 3rd, the day of the translation of his relics, drawing large numbers of pilgrims.
The monastic complex includes the central katholikon, dedicated to Agios Nektarios, the guesthouse (archontariki), the abbot’s quarters, monks’ cells, and auxiliary buildings. The church is characterized by its simple yet deeply reverent atmosphere. On the first floor, the chapel of Agios Silouanos the Athonite, beautifully adorned with iconography, offers a quiet space for prayer and stillness. Nearby, the historic Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos, dating from the 14th century and restored in the 20th century, adds historical depth to the area.
Today, the Holy Monastery of Agios Nektarios in Palaiogratsano is a vibrant spiritual refuge, offering visitors and pilgrims an opportunity for prayer, rest, and renewed connection to their faith. Through the blessing of Agios Nektarios and the devotion of the monastic brotherhood, the monastery continues its spiritual mission with humility and hospitality, welcoming faithful from across Greece.
