Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos (Genniseos Theotokou) in Flampouro

In Flampouro, Florina, the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos is one of the most distinctive religious landmarks in the region. Built in 1871 by the local residents, who were skilled builders, the church is a three-aisled, wooden-roofed basilica with a tower-like bell tower, measuring 25.64 by 12.78 meters. Despite being partially destroyed by a fire in 1912, it was restored in 1923 and underwent significant repairs in 1958-59, including the construction of new columns. In 1980, aluminum openings were added for better protection.

The church features unique architectural elements, such as the women's gallery above the narthex, the semi-hexagonal sanctuary apse, and a layout divided into three aisles by five pairs of columns. Its dome, painted by Vangelis Tamoutselis, enhances the space with a sense of spiritual grandeur and artistic value. Today, the church remains a vibrant religious center for the community, blending its historical legacy with its modern religious and cultural role. Its imposing presence and architectural details make it one of the most significant ecclesiastical monuments in Florina.
