Church of Agios Georgios in Eratyra

Built in 1844, the Church of Agios Georgios in Eratyra, Kozani, is an outstanding example of 19th-century religious art and architecture. As a three-aisled wooden-roofed basilica with a five-part layout (including the external narthex), the church incorporates elements of the local construction tradition with influences from the broader region of Western Macedonia.
The architectural ensemble impresses with its tall bell tower, which dominates the central square of the village. The interior of the church features a gilded wooden iconostasis, created by painters from the School of Selitsa, representing the peak of post-Byzantine woodcarving art. The church's frescoes, rich in iconographic themes, combine traditional techniques with elements of popular aesthetics.
The church holds significant religious and social importance for Eratyra, serving as the main place of worship and cultural gathering. The annual feast of Agios Georgios (April 23) attracts a considerable number of worshippers and visitors. Today, the church is an important element of the region's cultural heritage, with its architectural and artistic value making it a noteworthy tourist attraction.
